Julia R. Prout

Owner & Funeral Director

Julia R. Prout is a fourth-generation funeral director and proud steward of her family’s century-long tradition of compassionate care in the West Essex community. A graduate of Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell, Julia earned her bachelor’s degree in Geography and German from The George Washington University, where she also minored in Sustainability and Geographic Information Systems. She spent her junior year studying abroad at Ludwig Maximilians Universität in Munich and graduated magna cum laude.

Following her passion for community service and environmental advocacy, Julia earned her Associate Degree in Funeral Service from the American Academy McAllister Institute in New York, graduating summa cum laude with the highest academic honors in her class. She is licensed by the state of New Jersey and has served at Prout Funeral Home in Verona since 2016, first as an intern and now as a director.

Julia specializes in green funeral options and natural burials and is committed to educating both the public and professionals on more sustainable end-of-life practices. She has presented her work on funeral home marketing and digital engagement at the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) International Convention and is an active member of multiple professional associations, including NFDA, the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association, and the Essex, Union, West Hudson Funeral Directors Association.

A proud local and community leader, Julia currently serves as President of the Junior Women’s Club of Verona and volunteers with the Verona Rescue Squad Auxiliary. She’s also the certified handler of the area's first funeral therapy dog, Morris V. Prout, who brings comfort to grieving families and joy to the local library and senior centers.

When she’s not serving families or leading community programs, Julia enjoys traveling and cooking through Ina Garten’s entire collection of cookbooks alongside her husband, Mike.
