Miriam E. Radek Obituary (1922 - 2024)

Miriam E. Radek (nee Greene), 102, of West Caldwell, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at home, with her family by her side. Miriam was born on February 22, 1922 in Orange, NJ, where she spent her earliest years, before her father's job as a building super took the family to West Orange and Verona. It was in Verona that Miriam met her future husband of 66 years, August V. Radek, when she asked him to retrieve her tennis ball from the roof of his family's restaurant. Miriam and August were married in November 1941, and Miriam held down the home front with her cheerful, quiet strength when August was drafted into World War II shortly thereafter. After the War, the couple began their family and settled in West Caldwell, where Miriam lived for over 72 years. A graduate of Orange High School, Miriam served as a secretary in the Caldwell-West Caldwell school system for many years, where her kind and generous nature left a lasting impression. Miriam was selfless; she went out of her way to help anyone in need (people and animals alike), and was adored by her family and many friends. Always on the move, Miriam loved to garden, play tennis, and rollerblade with her granddaughters, which she did well into her seventies. She will be missed by many, including her two sons, Edward of Tucson, Ariz., and Steven of West Caldwell; daughter-in-law, Emerida; her grandchildren, Natalia and Mariel Radek; and Conor Bradley, Mariel's fiance. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, August V. Radek, and her siblings, Harold Greene and Mabel Holmes. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025 in Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave, Caldwell from 4-7pm. A Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 11am, followed by interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
