May Lenehan Obituary (1922 - 2019)

May Lenehan May Lenehan, a longtime resident of North Caldwell, passed away peacefully at her home there early Thursday morning, at the age of 97. She had been in declining health.She grew up in Passaic and worked as a legal secretary early in life, notably with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Newark. She married her husband of almost 50 years, Arthur F. Lenehan, in 1942, in the chapel at the Naval Air Station in Pennsacola, Florida, where he was in training as a Navy flyer. For the rest of her life, she met adversity with optimistic resolve and a good humored evocation of the attitude that prevailed among the Navy air crews: 'Keep 'em flyin'!" For many years the couple were enthusiastic members of the Montclair Golf Club. She was a devout parishioner at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in North Caldwell. Her husband died in 1998. She is survived by her four children Dennis (Alex), in San Francisco; Arthur, in Bluffton, S.C.; Sherry, in North Caldwell, and Dan (Mary), in San Francisco, as well as seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, N.J. on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The service will be at the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
