Mrs. Louise M. Altimari, 87, of Verona, NJ, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Visiting will take place at the Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Avenue, Caldwell, on Tuesday, January 13 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Aloysius Church in Caldwell on Wednesday, January 14 at 9:30 AM.
Born and raised in Jersey City, Louise devoted her life to caring for others. She raised her children in Cedar Grove and later lived in Manchester before settling in Verona ten years ago. She also cherished her time spent in Point Pleasant Beach, which always held a special place in her heart.
Louise earned her nursing degree from Jersey City Medical Center and built a long and compassionate career in healthcare. She worked at Montclair Community Hospital, Cedar Grove Manor Nursing Home, provided private duty nursing, and later served families as a professional babysitter. For the past ten years, she proudly worked as a crossing guard in Essex Fells, where she became a familiar and friendly presence in the community.
Deeply active and energetic, Louise volunteered as a Little League coach in Cedar Grove, played tennis, and was a member of the Cedar Grove travel softball team. She also had a lifelong love of crocheting and generously handmade countless items for friends, family, and even strangers. From hats and blankets to coffee cozies, every stitch reflected her kindness and care, and she delighted in sharing her craft with others. In recent years she took to candy making and would deliver up her goodies to friends and family alike. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who knew her that wasn't touched by her generosity.
A devoted parishioner of Saint Aloysius Church in Caldwell, Louise served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister and lector. She also assisted grieving families during Funeral Masses, offering comfort and a welcoming presence during difficult times.
Of all Louises accomplishments, non made her prouder than being Nanny to her 9 grandchildren. She always made it a point to text them every Sunday with a little note or just to tell them she loved them.
She was predeceased by her brother, Salvatore Altimari, Jr.; her twin sister, Frances Altimari; and her brother, Joseph Altimari.
She is survived by her beloved children, Louis Mauriello (Michell), Anne Merendino (Angelo), Mark Mauriello (Joanne), and Michael Mauriello (Mahsa); her cherished grandchildren, Gregory (Rachel), Michael, Dominick, Jake, Christine, Mitchel, Darian, Marco, and Shay; her great-grandchildren, Gregory and Giada; and her dear brother, Michael Altimari.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences may be shared on her obituary page at dancyfuneralhome.com.
