West Orange, NJ

Joseph Scaturro, Jr. of West Orange, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the age of 94.

Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Scaturro lived in Toms River for many years before moving back to West Orange. He was employed as a Tax Assessor for the Township of West Orange for many years before retiring.

Mr. Scaturro proudly served in the United States military during WWII, for which he was awarded several military honors. He had many lifelong hobbies including golfing, writing, and beating his friends and family at cards.

Mr. Scaturro was a beloved member of a large family who epitomized "family first". He was most famously referred to as "Uncle Joe", even to those who were not related to him. He was a devoted son, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to all who had the honor of knowing him. Throughout his life, he was loved by so many and always gave that love back tenfold. Anyone in need of a helping hand or word of encouragement knew that they always had Uncle Joe. Mr. Scaturro set an example of kindness and goodness for the entirety of his life.

He was also quick-witted, one to tell a sarcastic joke, and those around him always enjoyed sharing in his humor and laughter. His smiles and laughs will be dearly missed.

Mr. Scaturro was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce (nee Wigfall), brothers, Martin and his wife, Janteel, George, and Anthony, and parents, Joseph Scaturro and Tina Pisano.

He is survived by his cherished nephews and nieces, Joseph and Kaaren Scaturo, Catherine Scaturo, Toni and Lynn Scaturro-Walton, Mari and Michael DeSacia, Pati and Louis Piserchio, Debi and Pete Egan, Sharon Abar, Kenneth and Tracy Abar, Louis and Kathy Whaley, and his siblings Jerry Scaturo, Chris and Louise Scaturo, Bridget and Sal DeCarlo, Margie DePasquale, and his sister-in-law Marie Scaturro, brother-in-law James Abar, and many adored great-nieces and nephews.
