Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, having lived a long and full life, passed away on Sunday, August 7th, 2022, surrounded by the love of his large family.
John was born in New York City on December 30, 1930. One of eleven children, John grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School, John served in the Korean War as a Lieutenant in the Cryptology Division of the United States Army. After his military service, John attended Fordham University where he received his bachelor's degree in mathematics. He then earned a master's degree in computer science and engineering, as well as a master's degree in mathematics.
In 1954, John married Anne R. Farrell, and together they raised their seven children. During these years, John taught at Manhattan's Trinity School, led a seminal computer technology initiative at RCA, and worked as an analyst for commodities companies specializing in copper, oil, and natural gas. As part of his work in commodities, John traveled extensively in the Middle East and Central Europe. It was during this period that John was nominated for and awarded the prestigious Sloane Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Following his time at MIT, John and Anne moved their growing family to Caldwell, New Jersey where they would reside for more than 50 years.
After his retirement, John continued his commitment to service and intellectual development, first with Rutgers University and then as a volunteer at a number of New Jersey high schools and colleges teaching mathematics and English.
John was a voracious reader, a curious intellectual, and a man of great faith and integrity. Over the years John had been active in the community as member and lecturer of the parish of St. Aloysius, as well as a Board Member of the Caldwell Public Library
