Humberto "Beto" S. Prieto Obituary (1960 - 2020)

Humberto "Beto" S. Prieto of Caldwell, NJ passed away on Monday August 31, 2020 at Saint Clare's Hospital at the age of 60. Beto was born on May 30, 1960 in Lima, Peru. He was the son of Mercedes (nee Tica) and the late Alejandro Prieto. He journeyed to the United States in 1984 in search for a better future. Worked in the restaurant industry until he learned enough English and joined the United States Marine Corps, graduating in 1990. During his time in the Marines he deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm and deployed throughout South Asia while stationed in Japan. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Montclair State University, 2001. Later went back into the military service and joined the Army Reserves, where he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Beto retired from the Army after 20 years of faithful service. He paved the way for future generations of family members to follow in his footsteps and join the Marines. He was caring and generous always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed playing futbol, Peruvian cuisine, he was an avid dancer, enjoyed reading, and traveling, but most of all he was devoted to his one and only loving son, Brandon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, Sept 6th from 2-7 PM at Paul Ippolito - Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave, Caldwell, N.J. (Due to restrictions on public gatherings, the funeral home will allow 50 people inside at a time. Attendees are kindly asked to limit their time inside the funeral home to accommodate others waiting to pay their respects to the family. Face masks and social distancing are required). The Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Aloysius Church, 219 Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell, N.J. on Monday, Sept 7th at 10:30 AM (Masks must be worn in church). Following Mass, Military Honors will be held outside of the church. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the family regrets that they will not be able to host a repast following the services. A celebration of Humberto's life will be announced at a later time. He is survived by his loving mother, Mercedes Prieto, his cherished son, Brandon Prieto, and loving wife Fanny Heredia Perez. He was the loving brother of Yris Blas and her husband, Eduardo, Vilma Prieto and her husband Jose Herencia, Edward Prieto and his wife Carmen, his late sister Doris Prieto, Enri Prieto and his wife Zoila, Diana Bartolotto and her husband Brian, and Daisy De Los Santos and her husband Danilo. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, Edward, Edwin, Lady, Jammie, Anthony, Joseph, Vanessa, Kelly, Cristian, Adam, Brianna, Michael, Alessandro, Maurizio, Justin, Stephanie, Angelina, and Camila.
