Gerald U. “Jerry” Zavecz, died peacefully on November 4, 2025, at the age of 77 in Morristown, New Jersey.
Visiting will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, November 10 at Notre Dame Church, North Caldwell, followed by interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
Born in Graz, Austria, Jerry immigrated to the United States in December 1955 and grew up in New Britain, Connecticut. After proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force in Texas, he moved to New Jersey to start his professional career. It was during his time at Bloomfield College that he met his beloved wife, Deborah. The two married in 1980 and settled in West Caldwell, where they created a home filled with love, raising their family.
Jerry enjoyed a long and successful career in Information Technology where his passion for people and innovative systems left a lasting impact across multiple industries. Outside of work, he led an active and creative life—he loved walking, running, cycling and practicing yoga, and had a deep affection for his dogs. As gifted musician, he shared his love for music by playing the clarinet for many years in service to his church, community and friends.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted daughters, Melissa Zavecz and Stephanie Mungo, along with Stephanie’s husband, Christopher, and his treasured grandchildren, Michelle and Michael. He will be fondly remembered as well by his brother, Bernhard, and his wife, Barbara, along with Kimberly, Nicole, and Bernie and his great-nieces and great-nephews.
A man of great character, Jerry touched the hearts of many with his warmth, generosity, and sense of humor. He will be profoundly missed by his family, dear friends, special friend Anita Zito and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to Heart Success at Morristown Medical Center, whose compassionate care meant so much to him and his family. Condolences and memories may be shared on his Remember Page at dancyfuneralhome.com.
