Generosa Natale

–

Maplewood, New Jersey

Generosa (Gene) Natale, 83, died peacefully at Winchester Gardens in Maplewood, NJ, on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

A celebration of her life will take place at Joy Church of God, 446 Northfield Avenue, West Orange, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 3 PM.

Born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, Generosa was one of nine children in a large and close-knit family. She carried her name well, as she was the most generous person, giving her time and resources to all those whom she loved. Family remained at the heart of her life throughout the years. As a young woman, she was a committed athlete, playing both basketball and soccer for the Uruguayan national teams. She played women's basketball for the Club Nacional de Football during the late 1950s and 1960s. Historical records show her actively competing and scoring for Nacional's women's basketball team.

In 1977, Generosa moved to Queens, NY, where she built a new life while remaining deeply connected to her family. She worked for many years as a jewelry stone setter in various shops, including her brother-in-law's business, Walmaro Jewelers in New York City.

She later moved to West Orange, NJ, to be closer to her ill brother, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and she took great joy in being part of their everyday lives as they grew up. Generosa was generous with both her time and her affection, maintaining close relationships across generations and always making family a priority.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Josefa Vendemia, Luisa Natale-Pineiro, Eduardo Natale, Manuel Natale, Alberto Natale, Virgilio Natale, and Maria Rosa Rodriguez.

Generosa is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Marta Natale-Manitto and Rubens Manitto; her sister-in-law, Nelsa Natale; her loving niece and caregiver, Ana Natale-Pereira; her godchildren, Luisa Novas and Tito Pineiro; and many cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many friends both near and far.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Orange Scholarship Fund (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=E4QMUFFR6RS6S) to support sports.
