Edith (Ida) Piscopo Obituary (1924 - 2023)

Edith (Ida) Piscopo of North Caldwell, NJ passed away peacefully, on December 13, 2023, at the age of 99. Visiting will be held in Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, NJ on Sunday, December 17th from 2-6 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held in Notre Dame Church, North Caldwell on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Vincent Martyr Cemetery, Madison, NJ. For all information and to send condolences on please visit www.ippolitofuneralhomes.com. Mrs. Piscopo was born in 1924, in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey. She was one of ten children, born of parents, Speranza and Francesco LaMagna. Speranza coming from Avellino, Italy, and Francesco from Salerno. After schooling, Edith worked with her brothers' electronics manufacturing business. Miss LaMagna met her future husband, Capt. Joseph P. Piscopo upon his return from Service in the United States Army Air Corps. The young couple were married at St. Mary's church in Rutherford, NJ. They moved to Belleville and then Bloomfield, NJ where they had three children Carol, Joseph and Richard. When they moved up Bloomfield Avenue to North Caldwell, Mrs. P. was very active with childhood asthma research through the organization known as CARIH. Mr. and Mrs. Piscopo also resided at their summer home - of over 65 years - on Long Beach Island, NJ. 'Mrs. P.' was loved and cherished by family and friends alike. Her strong Faith intact, she was a regular at Notre Dame Church daily Mass in North Caldwell. Always entertaining large groups of family and friends, Edith was renowned for her classic blueberry pancakes and authentic lasagne napoletane. Family was first and foremost to Edith and she leaves behind her 3 children, Carol Haroldson, Joseph and Richard Piscopo and 7 grandchildren, Joey, Brian, Brett, Alexandra, Michael, Olivia and Charlotte. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, including Paul LaMagna. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Joseph P. Piscopo, Sr. and her brothers, Nick, Frank, James, Emil and Joseph LaMagna and sisters, Lucy Pollara, Gilda Hergert and Carmella Laudati. Celebrating holidays, birthdays and graduations, Momma Piscopo was a mentor, a leader, loving Mother and Grandmother and the shining sun that her family revolved around. Ida Assunta Piscopo exemplified the hard work, determination, and everlasting spirit of the Greatest Generation.
