Dorothy V. Allia

Dorothy Allia of Essex Fells, passed away at home on September 4, 2020 in the company of loved ones. She was 94.

Born in Newark, Dorothy graduated Clifford J. Scott High School in '44. She had a love for numbers and worked at a bank until meeting, then marrying Frank, her husband of 68 years. The lived in Essex Fells for 58 of those years.

Dorothy thrived as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and through the years acted as a surrogate mother to so many who came to her door in need of comfort and understanding.

She is survived by her son, John, daughters, Deborah McWilliams, Diane Walsh, Denise Ryan, Doreen Ward, and their husband, Timothy, Denis, Kevin, and Steven. She was the cherished grandmother of Carleigh Gill, Michael McWilliams, Baley Boccitto, Tegan, Allyn and Kelley Walsh; Annie, Grace, and Nina Ward, as well as the loving great-grandmother of Northman McWilliams, Kennedy, Willa, and Carlon Gill, Ronan Boccitto and Dmitri Walsh.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN would be appreciated.

Right now Dottie is sitting at a kitchen table in heaven. On the table there are pencils, napkins covered in doodles, condensed milk and crumbs from a Entenmann's crumb cake that's been cut into a precise 4x3 grid by her husband, Frank, who is smoking a pipe and blowing perfect, nested smoke rings while Tim, their first grandson, pours the coffee. She is very very happy.
