Diana C. Amato (nee Christiano) Obituary (1936 - 2021)

Diana C. Amato (nee Christiano), 85, of North Caldwell, N.J., beloved wife of Dr. James L. Amato, Sr., cherished mother, and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday morning, Dec. 22, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, N.J., immediately followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Notre Dame Church, North Caldwell. Entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover, N.J. Born in Orange, N.J., May 29, 1936, daughter of the late Arthur and Frances Christiano, she met the love of her life at Clifford Scott High School in East Orange, where she graduated in 1954. A registered nurse, Mrs. Amato earned her nursing degree from St. Mary's Nursing School and worked as an operating room nurse at Children's Hospital in Washington DC, while her husband was attending medical school. Mrs. Amato was a resident of North Caldwell most of her life, where she helped her husband, Dr. James Amato, Sr. in his medical practice and raised their children and later helped care for her grandchildren. The couple also maintained a home in Lavallette. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to care for her family. She supported and volunteered for many fund-raising events including St. Michael's Hospital and Mount St. Dominic Academy. The beloved wife of 60 years to Dr. James L. Amato, Sr., she was the loving mother of Florence Scrivo and her husband, Dr. Steven Scrivo, Dr. James L. Amato Jr. and his wife, Nicole Amato, and Francine Giuditta and her husband, Nicholas Giuditta, Esq.; dear sister of Dr. Arthur Christiano and his wife, Julie, and cherished grandmother of Steven Scrivo, James Scrivo, Faith Anne Scrivo; Ethan Green; Nicholas Giuditta, Christopher Giuditta; Ava Amato, Jordan Amato, and Savannah Amato. She is also survived by her dear brother-in-law Cyrus Amato and his wife, Alda, and many loving nieces and nephews.
