Barbara Potenzano (nee Borgheri), 94 of Hopatcong, NJ passed away Thursday July 20, 2023, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Bernard (Bernie) Potenzano. They lived in Far Rockaway, NY, Rocky River, OH, and Spring Valley, NY before settling in Montclair, NJ.

Barbara was born in Brooklyn, NY to Ruth and Peter Borgheri. After graduating from Fort Hamilton High School, she worked for IBM when the computer age was new and emerging.

A devoted homemaker Barbara worked part-time so she could be home when her children returned from school and volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader. She later worked at various companies including Peugeot, Allison Corporation and AON in Human Resource for many years before retiring.

She is survived by her brother John Borgheri and partner Neal Hobbs, her four children: Stacey and her husband Dave Malcolm, Lisa and her husband Ted Cyrier, Susan and her husband, David Whetsell, Clarks Summit, PA David, and his fiancee Veronica Mattiello. Grandmother to six: Daniel, Matthew, Benjamin, Lily, Justin, and Emily and great-grandmother of two Felix and Penelope, as well as aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a generous woman who enjoyed traveling, cooking lavish holiday meals, and celebrating family traditions. She was an avid opera fan, constantly saying opera was music that feeds the soul. Barbara never met an animal she did not like; and was known to have dogs, cats, birds, ducks and even geese, but her family gave her the most joy. She was loved by all her relatives and dear friends and will be greatly missed by her entire family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers, Wounded Warrior, or a charity of your choice.
