Adolph F. Freda Obituary (1935 - 2020)

Adolph F. Freda, 85, of Jersey City, N.J., passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020. A private family service will be held at a later date. Born in Orange, Mr. Freda lived in Jersey City for many years.He was the valedictorian of West Orange high school in 1953. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from New York University, a Master of Arts from Rutgers University and he also pursued a doctoral degree from NYU. He had an authoritative knowledge across a range of topics, including language and history. He was also a member of America's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. A respected, lifelong academic, Adolph was an adjunct professor with Essex County College in Newark and later at Hudson County College in Jersey City, before retiring. He was an avid reader and a passionate advocate for civil liberties and social justice. Throughout his life, Adolph enjoyed taking in the vast cultural offerings of New York City, attending lectures, seeing films and visiting museums and restaurants. Mr. Freda was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Josephine Freda, and brother, Philip Freda. Surviving are his brother, Robert Freda; nephews Philip Freda, David Freda, Kenneth Freda, Richard Freda, Robert Freda and Matthew Freda; and nieces Donna Freda Shaffer and Bianca Freda.
